the cable guy

My internet connection has been throwing tantrums for the last couple of days, which wasn't that cool since finals are starting soon (omg tomorrow!!) and I rely on the web for quick wiki searches and for entertainment during my study breaks. After a few fruitless attempts of fiddling with the wires around my modem and router, the rogers rep helping me through the phone gave up and decided to dispatch a man over.

Ai, so I had to skip my open lab study time today to wait for the cable guy at home.

Like the technical magician that I never was, he whirled around some cable lines and redirected some signals that sent my laptop busting back into cyberspace. Which was cool. But what was more cool that the fascinating and enlightening conversation that I had with him afterwards.

It turns out that his wife is a professor, and she has been educated in homeopathic medicine. He talked about some really cool cases he's seen himself of the effects of homeopathy, and he talked about the philosophy and science behind the practice. He told me about the "aura" of frequencies that surrounds each being, how these (magnetic?) fields can be manipulated to reset the natural, perfect order of the body. And on top of that, some of this 'resetting' comes not just from the medicine themselves, but also from the spiritual focus and intentions of the person.

This might come off as a little wifty-wafty, but I love this kind of stuff. As much as my academic background instructs me to look for evidence that comes from rigid scientific protocols, the mysteries of this world upon which science barely breathes on continue to intrigue me. There are incredible things out there that aren't black and white. I have no idea what they are, but they really make this world that much more beautiful and captivating.
